'Punjab 95': Diljit Dosanjh-starrer biopic on Jaswant Singh Khalra to premiere at Toronto Festival

PTC Web Desk:  Actor Diljit Dosanjh has shared a post on his Instagram handle stating that "biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra 'Punjab 95' would premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

On the other hand, the makers of the biopic on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, have unveiled the new poster of the film with a changed title, “Punjab 95”.

The film was earlier titled “Ghallughara”. However, the Censor Board delayed its clearance and sought a change in the title and content.

Diljit Dosanjh took to Instagram and wrote, "Waheguruji ka Khalsa, Waheguruji ki Fateh! World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Presenting the first look of Punjab ‘95, a compelling story based on the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra Ji."

Who was Jaswant Singh Khalra?

Jaswant Singh Khalra was an Indian human rights activist, who dedicated his life to exposing human rights violations, particularly cases of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings, during the Punjab insurgency in the 1980s and 1990s. He was a prominent member of the human rights organisation called "Human Rights Watch."

Khalra's relentless efforts to uncover the truth led to significant revelations about mass cremations of unidentified bodies by the Punjab Police, revealing the extent of state-sponsored atrocities during that period.
