From a few lines to a full-time career: How Rajvir Jawanda won producers’ hearts
PTC Web Desk: The Punjabi music fraternity and countless fans are anxiously waiting for good news about singer Rajvir Jawanda, who is battling for life in the ICU after a serious road accident on September 27. The 35-year-old singer, who once wore the Punjab Police uniform, has carved out a unique space in the industry as a singer free from controversies and admired for his disciplined persona.
Jawanda’s accident occurred while he was travelling to Shimla on his newly purchased BMW bike. The impact left him with severe head and spine injuries, and he is currently undergoing treatment in a Mohali hospital.
Back in his home village Pauna (Ludhiana district), residents have been holding collective prayers for his recovery. For them, Rajvir is not only a celebrity but also a local boy who never forgot his roots.
His musical journey, in fact, began right there during a Doordarshan shoot of 'Mera Pind-Mera Khet', a programme hosted by his mother, Paramjit Kaur, who was then the village sarpanch. A young Rajvir impressed producers by singing a few lines, sparking what would later become his full-time career.
Jawanda’s early education was at Sanmati Vimal Jain School, Jagraon, followed by graduation from DAV College, Jagraon. He later pursued an MA in Theatre and Television at Punjabi University, Patiala. Like his father, Karam Singh, a retired Assistant Sub-Inspector, he too joined the Punjab Police as a constable in 2011. But after eight years of service, he resigned in 2019 to dedicate himself to music.
Since his debut album 'Munda Like Me' in 2014, Rajvir Jawanda has risen to fame with chartbusters like 'Shokeen', 'Kangani', 'Landlord', 'Muqabla', 'Patiala Shahi Pag', 'Kesari Jhande', and Surname. His strong vocals, robust stage presence, and image rooted in discipline—shaped by his police background—have made him stand out in an industry often marked by controversies. He has also collaborated with popular artists such as Maninder Buttar, further cementing his popularity.
As prayers continue across Punjab, messages of support have also poured in from the music world. Superstar Diljit Dosanjh recently saluted Jawanda’s character and urged fans to keep him in their thoughts. For now, all eyes remain on the hospital in Mohali, as admirers hope the singer who once balanced law enforcement and art will emerge strong once again.
