The most anticipated and vibrant festival of colours is here. The festival of 'gulal' for which people wait eagerly for 12 months celebrates the victory of good over evil.
The festival falls in the Hindu calendar month of Phalgun, ie between February and March. The day marks the festival which is not only played with colours, but also with flowers and water, where people smear colours on each other's faces, enjoy their favorite delicacies, and have the chilled 'bhang thandai'.

Kids fill their water toy known as 'pichkari' and ballons with water and colour and play with their friends.
However, Holi is not celebrated in the same way across the nation. In braj region like Mathura, Vrindavan, Gowardhan, Gokul and Barsana, people celebrate Lathmar Holi where women hit men with lath or sticks while they try to shield themselves.
Devotees and priests gather at Banke Bihari Temple and throw flowers at each other.
