2-foot-long baby crocodile found in public swimming pool in Mumbai; rescued | See PIC
Baby crocodile in swimming pool: A two-foot-long baby crocodile was rescued from a public swimming pool in Mumbai's Dadar on Tuesday. The baby crocodile was found by a sanitation worker at 5:30 a.m. while inspecting the Mahatma Gandhi Jaltaran Talao, an Olympic-sized swimming pool before it opened to the public.
The hatchling was rescued by experts, and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will turn it over to the forest department for release back into its natural habitat.
"An investigation is underway to determine how the crocodile ended up in the swimming pool, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings," senior BMC official Kishor Gandhi said.
Another official stated that the staff of the civic body inspect public swimming pools every day before opening the gates to the public. The official went on to say that the hatchling was caught before anyone was hurt and that steps are being made to give over the reptile to the forest department.
