24-year-old Saiesh Veera, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was shot at in an attempted robbery at the gas station he worked in early on Thursday morning.

Andhra student shot dead at US gas station 10 days before graduation

Amaravati, April 21: An 24-year-old Indian student from Andhra Pradesh who was due to graduate with a master’s degree in a few days was shot dead in Columbus, Ohio on Thursday, reported according to local media.

On April 20, 2023, Columbus Police Officers were dispatched to the 1,000 block of W. Broad St. in response to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male victim, identified as Saiesh Veera, M/O/24, suffering from a gunshot wound. 


Columbus Fire Service personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, but despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at 1:27 am.

"On April 20, 2023, at 12:50 am, Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Broad St. on a reported shooting. Upon arrival, the officers located an adult male victim, identified as Saiesh Veera, M/O/24, suffering from a gunshot wound," the police said in a notification.

According to police, the incident remains under investigation and the family has been informed.

The Columbus Division Police recently shared a photo of the suspect who was seen on CCTV cameras.

Rohit Yalamanchili, who was overseeing an online fundraiser to send Veera's body back to India, stated that the young man was doing his Master's course and had been picked under the H-1B visa with his graduation only 10 days away. 

He had been working as a clerk at the fuel station, but was due to quit in a couple of weeks.

Veera had come to the US with ambitions to uplift his family, as his father had died two years ago. He was known for being willing to help people in any situation and was a brilliant cricketer and great friend to those who played in the Columbus area.

The Columbus Division Police released a photo of the suspect, who had been seen on CCTV cameras. The incident is currently under investigation, and the family has been informed.
