Bengal 11-year-old murder: Key accused killed in police encounter during crime scene reconstruction in Baruipur
PTC News Desk: One of the accused in the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl was killed in a police encounter late last night in Kolkata's Baruipur area. According to sources, police had taken Pravash Mondal to the crime scene around midnight to recreate the sequence of events when he allegedly tried to snatch a firearm from an officer and escape.
Mondal was one of the three people arrested after the girl's body was found inside a sack in a pond in Baruipur. The other two accused have been identified as Ananda Sardar and Dibakar Sardar.
The incident triggered widespread protests in the southern suburbs of Kolkata, with angry residents damaging railway tracks and police vehicles. Police have arrested at least 20 people in connection with the violence and vandalism.
