Historical! INS Vikrant hosts maiden landing of MiG-29K jets
New Delhi, February 7: The successful landing of a MiG-29K by Naval Pilots on INS Vikrant demonstrated India's prowess in Aircraft Carrier design, construction, and operations, while also enhancing the Navy's combat readiness.
The Indian Navy shared a video of the MiG-29K landing on INS Vikrant on its official Twitter account with the caption, "Watch the maiden landing of MiG-29K onboard the #IndigenousAircraftCarrier #INSVikrant."
Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, stated in a press release following the landing, "The successful landing and take-off of the indigenous LCA Navy on India's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier is a momentous step forward towards the realisation of our collective vision of AatmaNirbharBharat. The maiden landing of the Mig-29K also heralds the integration of the fighter aircraft with INS Vikrant. Congratulations to all those who made it happen."
INS Vikrant is our country's first indigenous aircraft carrier and the most complex warship ever built. The ship was designed in-house by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and built by M/s Cochin Shipyard Limited, which is a source of pride for the Indian Navy.
On August 4, 2021, the ship set sail for its first sea trials. Since then, she has completed sea trials for Main Propulsion, Power Generation Equipment, Fire Fighting Systems, Aviation Facility Complex equipment, and other systems. According to the press release, the Carrier was commissioned into the Indian Navy on September 2, 2022, with Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Chief Guest.
