IPS officer kills self after wife's death due to cancer
PTC Web Desk: Shiladitya Chetia, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer who served as the home and political department secretary in the Assam government, allegedly killed self on Tuesday. According to the state police, he took the extreme step soon after his wife's death in the hospital. His wife had cancer.
GP Singh, the Director General of Police in Assam, informed the public about the officer's death. He claimed he killed himself minutes after his wife died from cancer.
DGP GP Singh stated that the entire Assam Police family is deeply saddened by the officer's tragic death.
"In an unfortunate turn of events, Sri Shiladitya Chetia IPS 2009 RR, Secretary Home and Political Government of Assam took his own life this evening, a few minutes after the attending physician declared the death of his wife who was battling cancer for a long time. Entire Assam Police family is in deep grief," the Assam Police chief added.
According to the Assam Tribune, Shiladitya Chetia, a 2009 Indian Police Service officer, has been on leave for the past four months, presumably dealing with the turmoil caused by his wife's illness.
He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
Shiladitya Chetia was the superintendent of police (SP) for the Tinsukia and Sonitpur districts of Assam before becoming the secretary of the state government.
The police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
