PM Modi shares rules he followed during 11-day fast

PTC Web Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi meticulously adhered to stringent rituals during his 11-day fast, observed from January 12 to January 22 ahead of the Ayodhya Ram Temple concercration (Pran Pratishtha) ceremony. The fasting period, marked by 40 rules, involved significant ascetic practices, including abstaining from consuming salt and adopting a minimalist lifestyle. He chose to sleep on the floor instead of a bed, aligning with the prescribed rituals that prohibit using a bed for sleeping or sitting.

As part of the fasting regimen, PM Modi refrained from travelling abroad, but was permitted to visit religious sites, as outlined by Swami Govind Dev Giri Maharaj of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra. During this period, he sustained himself by consuming coconut water exclusively, foregoing regular meals. Although the prescribed fasting duration was three days, PM Modi extended it to 11 days in preparation for the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of the Ram Temple.

Pandit Sadanand Pathak noted that PM Narendra Modi strictly adhered to the fasting rules, abstaining from salt consumption. However, he could substitute it with rock salt and consume fruits. Additionally, PM Modi embraced a humble lifestyle by choosing to sleep on the floor, and he observed rituals such as Gau Seva, feeding cows. The Prime Minister refrained from shaving and trimming his nails during this sacred period.

Part of the fasting rituals involved meditation on the banks of the Saryu River, which flows through Ayodhya. The consecration ceremony at the Ram Temple incorporated recitations of verses from the Ramcharitmanas, adding a spiritual dimension to the entire ritualistic process. The Prime Minister's emotional engagement during the consecration ceremony, as reported by priests involved in the 'Pran Pratishtha' puja, highlights the deeply spiritual and personal significance of this profound journey.
