Work From Home Scam: Woman duped of Rs 11 lakh in Gurugram

Gurugram, April 24: A woman from Gurugram was allegedly scammed of ₹ 11.45 lakh by someone who promised her a work-from-home opportunity. 

Puja Verma, a native of Agra, reported the incident to the police. She stated in her complaint that she received a message on WhatsApp offering her a part-time job where she would be able to make money.

The sender told her to join a Telegram channel via a link, and then she was given tasks such as subscribing to YouTube channels and investing ₹ 5,000. She was promised that if she put in ₹ 1,00,000, she would be able to withdraw the profits.

Verma, who got a return of ₹ 6,440 on her investment, believed the offer was genuine and ended up depositing the remaining amount. However, she was never able to withdraw her profits and lost ₹ 11.45 lakh in the process.

An FIR was lodged at Manesar police station's Cyber Crime department on Friday under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 419 (cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
