CBI arrests jailed BRS leader K Kavitha in Delhi excise policy case
PTC Web Desk: Jailed K Kavitha, leader from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), was on Thursday arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a case concerning the Delhi excise policy case. Earlier, she was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from her residence in Hyderabad on March 15.
Kavitha alleged that the case was politically motivated and claimed that she was being targeted due to her affiliation with an opposition party. She mentioned that the CBI recorded her statement while she was in jail, and termed the investigation as a "political case."
CBI officials recently questioned Kavitha inside the jail after obtaining permission from a special court. Their questioning centered on WhatsApp chats recovered from the phone of co-accused Buchi Babu and documents related to a land deal that are linked to the Delhi excise policy case.
On April 6, the CBI visited Tihar Jail to question Kavitha about these aspects of the investigation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused Kavitha of being a key member of the so-called "South Group," which has been alleged to have paid the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi Rs 100 crore in kickbacks. These kickbacks were purportedly given in exchange for securing a large share of liquor licenses in the national capital.
Kavitha's arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the Delhi liquor policy case, which has seen multiple political figures and parties facing scrutiny. The case has also drawn attention due to its potential implications for the balance of power between various political parties and the broader political landscape.
