Major Chandigarh police reshuffle: 10 SHOs transferred, 21 inspectors shifted
Major Chandigarh police reshuffle: In a major grassroots-level overhaul, the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday night transferred 21 inspectors, including 10 of the 16 Station House Officers (SHOs), in an effort to bring in fresh leadership and strengthen policing on the ground. According to an official order issued by SP (PEB), Headquarters & EOW, Manjeet, the large-scale reshuffle is aimed at revitalising operations at the police station level. The SHOs of IT Park and Sector-34 police stations — listed at serial numbers 7 and 15 — have been moved to Police Lines.
The changes come amid rising security concerns, including the grenade blast outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37 on April 1 and three consecutive shootouts reported within a week. Police, however, have cracked all these cases and arrested those involved. Senior officials noted that several SHOs had been shifted recently as well, highlighting an ongoing push to revamp frontline policing.
Chandigarh DGP Sagar Preet Hooda said the reshuffle was driven by the need to uphold professionalism and build public trust. “Clean image and professionalism have been the criteria. I have tried my best to assign field roles to the most capable officers available,” he said.
He added that the move is intended to improve accountability and responsiveness at the station level. “Our focus is on sharper ground-level policing, faster response, and stronger engagement with citizens. These changes are part of a continuous effort to reinforce law and order,” the DGP said.
Officials further indicated that the sweeping transfers are aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring experienced officers are deployed where they are needed most, especially in light of recent incidents that have tested the city’s policing system.
