Punjab declares public holidays on May 1 and May 30: Schools and govt offices to remain shut
PTC Web Desk: The month of May in Punjab will begin with a public holiday. The Punjab Government has declared Thursday, May 1, as a gazetted holiday on the occasion of Labour Day (International Workers’ Day). On this day, all government offices, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across the state will remain closed.
Earlier, the state government had also announced a gazetted holiday on Tuesday, April 29, to mark Parshuram Jayanti. On that day as well, all government departments and educational institutions remained shut.
April witnessed a significant number of holidays, with as many as seven gazetted holidays observed. In contrast, May has only two gazetted holidays scheduled.
The second holiday in May will fall on Friday, May 30, in observance of the Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji. The Punjab Government has officially announced a holiday for this occasion as well, and government offices and educational institutions will remain closed.
