PTC Web Desk: Threads, Instagram's rival to Twitter and Snapchat, is ramping up its features by introducing a keyword search function across all accessible regions. Initially trialed in English-speaking areas such as Australia and New Zealand, this feature expanded to most English and Spanish-speaking countries, including the US, by September.

TechCrunch reported that Adam Mosseri, Instagram's head, declared the inclusion of keyword searches in all languages, aiming to cater to a global audience. This update, reaching nearly 100 million monthly users, marks a significant step in Threads' evolution.

Plans for an EU launch have surfaced, highlighting the necessity of multilingual search capabilities for diverse user bases. The app's improvements, driven by user feedback, have been rapid since its launch. Notable additions include a chronological following feed, a web app, likes viewing, polls, GIFs, hashtag support, profile switching, and more.

Despite its growth, Threads hasn't embraced one core feature of its competitor, X: Trending Topics, although it's reportedly in development. The app leans toward a less real-time experience, evident in its algorithmic feed featuring older posts. Mosseri emphasized the platform's divergence from amplifying news, setting it apart from X's focus on breaking news. However, the influx of former X users might shape Threads' trajectory.

Mosseri hinted at further search enhancements in the pipeline while emphasizing limitations in search terms related to specific topics like "long covid," redirecting users to the CDC website for accurate information.

With almost 100 million monthly users, Threads trails behind X, which boasts around 550 million monthly active users. Despite this, it has yet to reach all the markets accessible to X, restricting its growth potential. Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, remains optimistic about Threads, envisioning it as Meta's next billion-user app in the coming years, as per TechCrunch's report.
