Man dies after consuming five neat liquor bottles for Rs 10,000 bet
PTC Web Desk: A 21-year-old man from Karnataka tragically lost his life after accepting a high-stakes alcohol challenge involving the consumption of five bottles of neat liquor (without any dilution). The fatal incident occurred in Mulbagal, Kolar district, where the man, Karthik, attempted to win a Rs 10,000 bet made with his friends.
Karthik had allegedly boasted to his peers—including Venkata Reddy, Subramani, and four others—that he could down five entire bottles of liquor straight. The group encouraged him with the promise of cash if he succeeded. After consuming the alcohol, Karthik became critically ill and was immediately taken to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to the effects of alcohol poisoning during treatment.
Tragically, Karthik had only been married for a year, and his wife had given birth just eight days prior to the incident. The police have registered a case at the Nangali police station and arrested Venkata Reddy and Subramani. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), alcohol consumption is responsible for approximately 2.6 million deaths annually. The WHO emphasises that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption, as even minimal intake can carry significant health risks, including cancer and organ damage.
