Gangster-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari tests positive for coronavirus in Banda jail
While coronavirus cases have been rising in India, the Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. He has been kept in isolation in the district jail in Banda, the officials said on Tuesday.
According to the information, Mukhtar Ansari was found positive for coronavirus in a rapid antigen test on Saturday. The Chief Medical Officer ND Sharma said that it was confirmed in an RT-PCR test on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Mukhtar Ansari has been kept in isolation at Barrack No 16 in Banda jail.
Doctors have been monitoring his health, said Principal Mukesh Kumar Yadav, the Banda Government Medical College. He added that despite testing positive, he had not shown any symptoms.

The Jail Superintendent Pramod Tripathi said that his health condition was normal.
On April 7, Ansari, a BSP MLA, was brought from Punjab jail after an order by the Supreme Court. He has been facing a number of criminal cases against him.
The Supreme Court, on March 26, had ordered the transfer of Ansari from Punjab to Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh to face trials there.
