Haryana Govt approves 21-day 'furlough' for Ram Rahim Singh

In a significant development, the Haryana government has approved a 21-day furlough for Dera Sacha chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The development comes just ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections 2022. 'Furlough' is like a holiday in which convicted prisoners get a leave and can visit their homes for a fixed period of time. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's parole is being connected with the Punjab Assembly elections 2022. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that Rahim Rahim has the right to apply for furlough as he has completed three years of imprisonment. "Due process has been followed." The court had convicted the Dera head and four others on October 8, 2021. Ranjit Singh murder case: Dera chief Ram Rahim, 4 others get life imprisonment The Special CBI court in Panchkula had awarded life imprisonment to all the accused, including Dera Sacha Sauda's Gurmeet Ram Rahim and four others besides a fine of Rs 31 lakh on Ram Rahim and Rs 50,000 on the remaining accused. It may be recalled that Ranjit Singh was shot dead near his fields in Khanpur Kolian village of Kurukshetra district on July 10, 2002. He had reportedly developed differences with the Dera chief following the allegations of rape of Sadhvis. The Dera chief is serving a 20-year jail term for raping two followers and has been sentenced to life for the murder of a journalist in 2002.
