Police arrest Bihar YouTuber over fake videos of migrant workers attacked in Tamil Nadu
West Champaran (Bihar), March 18: Police on Saturday arrested YouTuber Manish Kashyap from Bettiah in Bihar for allegedly spreading false and misleading news about alleged attacks on migrant labourers working in Tamil Nadu.
The accused surrendered at Jagdishpur police station in Bettiah while the Bihar Police and Economic Offence Unit (EOU) were attaching his house, according to the Bihar police.
"Kashyap, wanted by Bihar Police and Tamil Nadu Police in fake news matter of labourers issue in the southern state, surrendered before the police on Saturday fearing arrest and attachment of his belongings," the EOU of Bihar Police said in a statement.
EOU booked Kashyap and others on the charges of "indulging in spreading fake videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media".
Earlier, four people were arrested and detained, including two members of the Hindu Munnani outfit, for allegedly assaulting migrant workers in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city, according to Tamil Nadu police.
Notably, the issue of alleged "attacks" on migrants arose after unverified social media reports claimed that migrant labourers were targeted in Tamil Nadu. It sparked unrest among workers from other states, and Stalin had to reassure them that the state was safe for them.
