Olympian Harpal Kaushik is no more
Hockey Olympian and decorated soldier Lt-Col Haripal Kaushik is no more. He died last night. He was 84. He leaves behind a daughter as his wife had died sometime ago. He would have celebrated his next birthday on February 2. Haripal Kaushik who played for India in three Olympics - 1956, 1960 and 1964 - represented Services in hockey. After retirement he settled down in his native village, Khusropur in Jalandhar Cantonment, and continued his association with the sport by starting a coaching centre there. Haripal Kaushik was suffering from dementia since 2015. He joined Sikh Regiment in 1959. For his exemplary role in the 1962 war against China, he was awarded Vir Chakra.
