AAP Sarpanch murder: Prime accused among two injured in police encounter in Tarn Taran
PTC News Desk: In a significant development in the murder case of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sarpanch Harbrinder Singh, one of the key accused and his accomplice were injured in police encounter near Nushera Pannuan on Sunday morning.
Both the accused were rushed to Civil Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.
AAP Sarpanch was shot dead while attending a wedding function in Sero village. Police had launched extensive manhunt to trace those involved.
The injured have been identified as Saranpreet Singh and Hardeep Singh, residents of Chohla Sahib. Police recovered two pistols from their possession.
The accused were nabbed after a brief exchange of fire with the police officials when a police party was conducting routine patrol duty near Nushera Pannuan in the early hours. They reportedly spotted suspicious movements. When they signalled them to stop, they tried to escape and opened fire on the police team.
The cops asked them to drop their weapons and surrender, however they opened fire again. In retaliatory firing by the police, both the accused sustained injuries.
SSP, Tarn Taran, Surendra Lamba further said that Saranpreet was one of the four suspects involved in the killing of Sarpanch.
