Bikram Singh Majithia slams Punjab govt over deteriorating law and order, seeks appointment of permanent DGP

PTC News Desk: Former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has raised serious questions over deteriorating law and order in Punjab and said that government should immediately appoint a permanent Director General of Police (DGP).

While speaking to the media after his first appearance in Mohali court following bail, Majithia alleged that acting DGP Gaurav Yadav is only trying save his skin in order to secure his position, while the state is grappling with law and order crisis.

SAD leader also criticised Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leader Sushil Gupta for interfering in Punjab affairs, asserting that all the decisions are being taken on their directions.

He added that former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had already returned the SYL canal land, and sending another team now is a betrayal of the people of Punjab.

Majithia further said that when the Punjab government and the DGP fail to contain such cases, the courts are forced to intervene. 'The government is failing on all fronts,' he added.

He alleged that Arvind Kejriwal is preparing to contest elections from Haryana and such decisions are being taken to attract Haryana voters. He said the people of Punjab are now aware and are observing the changes in the state.

Majithia was released from jail on February 3 under certain conditions. In connection with the case, he appeared in a Mohali court on Saturday, February 7. The next hearing in the case will be held on March 7.
