PTC News Desk: Four Indian origin Canadian political leaders have managed to pave their way onto Mark Carney's cabinet. All of them share their roots with Punjab. Striking a balance in the cabinet’s Indian inclusions, two women and two men have been welcomed onboard.
Anita Anand, Member of Parliament from Oakville East, has especially registered an unparalleled milestone, becoming the first Hindu woman to be appointed as Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Meanwhile, Maninder Sidhu has taken on role of Minister of International Trade. Ruby Sahota has been named Secretary of State for Combatting Crime. Lastly, Randeep Sarai bears the title of Secretary of State for International Development.
Who is Anita Anand?
The Indian-origin woman Anita Anand has registered an unparalleled milestone as she becomes first Hindu woman to be appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs. Having her roots both in North and South India, Anand is the first woman of Hindu heritage to serve this role. She placed her hand on the Bhagavad Gita during the swearing-in ceremony.

Who is Maninder Sidhu?
The 41-year-old Canadian entrepreneur, formerly a parliamentary secretary, now serves as the nation's Minister of International Trade. Elected to Parliament in 2019, his LinkedIn profile notes that he has “collaborated with businesses throughout Canada to offer strategic guidance, concentrating on trade, tariffs, and growth prospects.”
He took to his social media and expressed his gratitude for Prime Minister Mark Carney for exuding confidence in him for holding such post.

Who is Ruby Sahota?
Appointed as the Secretary of State for Combatting Crime, the Brampton North–Caledon MP, Ruby Sahota, was born in Toronto to Punjabi immigrant parents. A law graduate from the University of Saskatchewan, she practiced immigration and family law prior to beginning her political career.
Who is Randeep Sarai?
Randeep Sarai, who was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Surrey-Centre in 2015, is recognized as a community leader, lawyer, and entrepreneur. Born in Vancouver and raised in South Burnaby, he pursued higher education by earning a Bachelor of Arts from UBC and later obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
