New Delhi, March 25: The Passing Out Parade (POP) of the first batch of Agniveers will take place on March 28 next week at INS Chilka.

The POP marks the successful conclusion of training for about 2,600 Agniveers, including 273 women Agniveers at Chilka. Adm. R Hari Kumar, Chief of Naval Staff, will be the Passing Out Parade's Chief Guest and Reviewing Officer.

VAdm MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, and other senior naval officers and dignitaries will also be present. The successful trainees will be assigned to frontline warships for sea training. The Agnipath Initiative was launched on June 14, 2022, by the Defence Minister and the three Defense Chiefs.

In line with the GoI initiative for a pan-India merit-based Agnipath recruitment programme, the Indian Navy geared its selection, training, and deployment process to establish the groundwork for a modern, dynamic, younger, and technically equipped future-ready force.

The Navy took advantage of this chance to begin recruiting Women Agniveers. Following that, almost 2600 Agniveers, including 273 women Agniveers, were inducted into the Indian Navy and began training at INS Chilka in November 2022.

The Agniveers received 16 weeks of ab-initio training at INS Chilka, the Indian Navy's flagship sailor training institution, as part of their transformation to Sea Warriors. Academic, service and outdoor training were all part of the training at INS Chilka, which was centred on the core Naval values of Duty, Honour, and Courage.

This first batch of Agniveers also comprises the women and men Agniveers who were part of the Indian Navy RD Parade Contingent on January 26 this year at the Kartavya Path. The Passing Out Parade is a proud moment for the trainees as well as their families.
