Former PM Manmohan Singh's family gives nod for memorial at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal
PTC News Desk: Clearing the decks, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's family has given written approval to the government for his memorial on a 900 sq m plot in the middle of the complex of samadhis called the Rashtriya Smriti Sthal near Delhi’s Raj Ghat.
According to the reports, the family had written to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, approving the site proposed and sending a letter of acceptance. Earlier Singh's daughters accompanied by their spouses paid a visit to the memorial site.
The site proposed to Manmohan Singh is adjacent to the memorial of former President Pranab Mukherjee. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) officials have already visited the site.
The next process includes formation of trust in the name of which land for the memorial will be transferred. The family will propose and finalise the names of members of the trust.
Singh, architect of India's economic reforms passed away on December 26, 2024 at the age of 92 following age-related complications. His last rites were performed at the Nigambodh Ghat.
