Chandigarh, October 18: Kavya Agarwal, a 22-year-old student from Gurugram, Haryana, has emerged as the winner of the 'Deputy High Commissioner for a Day' contest, organised by the UK. Kavya claimed this prestigious title for the North India region, encompassing Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Another gifted young woman, Tanya Sood from Ambala, Haryana, secured the runner-up position in the same competition. Kavya and Tanya had the exceptional opportunity to engage with British Deputy High Commissioner Caroline Rowett and other members of the British Deputy High Commission in Chandigarh.

Their experience extended to Patiala, where they had an enlightening interaction with Punjab Police constable Gulab Singh Shergill, a dedicated advocate for women's cricket in rural areas, along with his enthusiastic group of young female cricketers.

Both Kavya and Tanya joined Caroline Rowett in a thought-provoking meeting with Patiala Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney, where they delved into the subject of women in leadership and exchanged ideas on promoting women's rights and empowerment.

Kavya Agarwal is a versatile individual who currently works as a full-time Content Marketer, in addition to her role as a teaching volunteer. She holds a BA (Hons) in English from Kalindi College, University of Delhi.

Tanya Sood, the runner-up of the competition, is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Political Science at the University of Delhi, following her completion of a BA (Hons.) in Political Science from Miranda House, University of Delhi.

This competition provides an outstanding platform for young women to advocate for girls' rights and the pivotal role of women in leadership positions. It aligns with the ongoing collaborative efforts of the UK and India to empower women and girls, enabling them to realize their full potential.
