Women's Reservation Bill: Union cabinet has approved a bill to ensure 33% reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

The meeting sparked interest as Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier said that "historic decisions" would be made during the special session. A series of key meetings were also held ahead of it, including meetings with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, as well as Home Minister Amit Shah. JP Nadda, the leader of the BJP, was also present during the meeting.

The bill advocates for a 33% quota for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Several political leaders demanded the introduction of this key bill.

Since the announcement of the special Parliament session, speculation began to swirl around the much-debated women's reservation bill.

According to the bill, women from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be given one-third of the total number of seats allotted for those groups. These reserved seats may be allocated to various constituencies in the state or union territory through rotation.

Despite being a critical step toward gender equality and inclusive governance, the bill remained in Parliament for far too long. The bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha in 2010, however, it was to be introduced in the Lower House of Parliament.
