PTC News demands justice for the Sikh youth who was sexually assaulted by cops
'Clothes removed, asked to cut each other’s public hair,' plight of youth in Punjab
‘Humiliation and torture, clothes removed and asked to grope each other in illegal custody’, that’s the story of a group of youth who were on their way back home late on Saturday night in Punjab’s Sanaur.
There only fault was- One of the youth pointed out that the ASI was drunk and they recorded the audio of the policemen who assaulted them and abused them at a naka, where the trouble began.
Following which they were taken to the police station, tortured and abused mercilessly. So much so that one of them was battling for life in the hospital the next morning.
As soon as the matter came to PTC News reporter, he immediately rushed to the hospital where the victim was taken as he battled for life. The reporter then contacted the hospital authorities, the police and raised the issue.
PTC News reporter exclusively covered the entire story by contacting the family of the victim, heard their plight and raised their ordeal through the news channel seeking justice for the victims. He also recorded the victims’ statement who wanted a strict action against the two accused.
The youth along with his five friends were on their way back home late on Saturday night on two bikes when a police team led by the ASI stopped them at a naka as they were triple-riding. One of the youths pointed out that the ASI was drunk, leading to an altercation.
“The ASI started hurling abuse. One of us took out a mobile phone and started recording the conversation. The cop threatened to throw us into the lock-up,” the victim told the reporter.
The ASI, along with two constables, took them in his Alto car to Sanaur police station.
“The cop then resorted to third degree torture and physically assaulted us with sticks and leather belts. We were even asked to cut each other’s pubic hair. He then forcibly took me to a secluded place and poured liquor into my mouth,” the victim added.
After hearing the plight of the youth PTC News raised the issue following which the Punjab government started investigation the matter and an FIR was registered against the ASI, Sanaur who was one the accused in the case.
Congress leader Parneet Kaur also met one of the victims in the hospital and asked the administration to ensure exemplary punishment to the guilty cops.
PTC News aggressively raised the issue on television and social media seeking justice for the youth of Punjab following which the Punjab Government had investigated the matter and an FIR was registered against Sanaur ASI Narinder Singh on August 8.
Later, the victim’s mother thanked PTC News personally for taking up the issue aggressively and demanding justice.
She in her statement said, “We are extremely thankful to PTC News for hearing to my sons’ plight and let the nation know the amount of pain and torture he is going through for making no crime at all. People say media is false, but here we are wishing PTC News courage to take up the voice of common man to the nation and the world.”
“From the first day they have stood by us in every situation. Their reporter has been of so much help as we could talk to him and explain our plight.”
Watching the plight of torture that a Sikh man went through in his own state- Punjab, we are extremely shocked and wonder its consequences in states abroad.
PTC News will stand with the victim and his family until justice is service. As we at PTC News believe, it’s our social responsibility to voice issues where a common man has been suppressed by those in power.
What worse than a Sikh man not being safe in Punjab itself? The fact that a young man was sexually assaulted inside the police station shocks us in its self.
