Chandigarh March 14: Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Tuesday, nabbed a private person namely Inderjit Sharma Patwari, resident of M.R. College Road, Fazilka, accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 on behalf of Waqf Board employee Nazar Ali, posted at Fazilka.

In this case, VB has already formed teams to arrest the absconding accused who is a resident of village Ursi Jattan, Rajpura in Patiala district.


Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above said private person has been arrested on the complaint of Surjit Singh, a resident of Chak Balochan Wala (Mahalam) in Jalalabad, district Fazilka.

Giving details, he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above-said Waqf Board employee and his accomplice private person have demanded Rs 60,000 as a bribe to endorse title of Waqf land measuring two canal in the name of his wife. The complainant further alleged that the above said accused had already taken Rs 5,000 as a bribe as first instalment and he has falsely promised to pay the money in instalments. The complainant recorded the conversation while the accused was demanding the bribe and submitted it to the VB as evidence to book the accused.

The spokesperson informed that the VB team from the Ferozepur unit after a preliminary investigation laid a trap and arrested the accused private person for receiving a bribe of Rs 10,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station Ferozepur. Further investigation, in this case, was under progress.
