BJP's Sarabjit Kaur becomes new Mayor of Chandigarh

Chandigarh MC elections result 2021: In a major development, Sarabjit Kaur of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been elected as the new mayor of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation with 14 votes. There were 28 votes cast in total. According to information, Sarabjit Kaur won by 14 votes and became the new Mayor of Chandigarh. Likewise, BJP's Daleep Sharma has been elected the Senior Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh. He bagged 15 votes while AAP's candidate won only 13 votes. BJP's Anupam Gupta has been elected as Deputy Mayor. In the 35-member House, AAP has 14 members, Congress seven and the BJP 13. It also includes Harpreet Kaur Babla, wife of former Congress leader Devinder Singh Babla who switched over to BJP, besides one vote of local MP Kirron Kher. AAP had named Anju Katyal for the post of Mayor and Prem Lata and Ram Chander Yadav for the posts Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively. Meanwhile, Sarabjit Kaur was the BJP’s candidate for the post of Mayor, while Dalip Sharma and Anup Gupta were contesting for the posts of Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively.
