Kerala: Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to visit landslide-hit Wayanad on Thursday: Reports

Wayanad Landslide: According to sources, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, along with Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to visit Wayanad which has been severely affected by landslides on Thursday. 

Initially planned for Wednesday morning, their visit was postponed due to heavy rain and adverse weather conditions preventing their landing.


Congress sources indicated that Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi will visit relief camps at Government Higher Secondary School and St. Joseph UP School in Meppadi. They are also scheduled to visit Dr. Moopen's Medical College in Meppadi.

The catastrophic landslides in Kerala's Wayanad district have resulted in deaths of 224 people and 225 people are still missing. 

All educational institutions will remain shut on Wednesday due to the tragedy and heavy rainfall. According to Onmanorama, a holiday has been declared in 11 districts: Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, and Pathanamthitta.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an 'orange' alert for Wayanad and surrounding areas, anticipating severe to very heavy rain on July 31 and August 1. The weather bureau has also predicted heavy rainfall on August 2.
