Wheat MSP Hike: Former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Wednesday asked the government of India to fulfill its promise to double the income of farmers by 2022. Taking to Twitter, Harsimrat Kaur Badal wrote: "GOI should give farmers their just dues and immediately revise Rs 40/Q hike in wheat MSP to Rs 150/Q." While the hike in input costs of agriculture (diesel, fertiliser, pesticides) & Black Laws have crushed farmers, the Rs 40/Q wheat MSP hike is pitiful. MSP must be hiked by at least Rs 150/Q to give remunerative price to farmers." The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved the increase in the minimum support prices (MSP) for all mandated rabi crops for Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2022-23. The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per a statement released by CCEA, the government has increased the MSP of rabi crops for RMS 2022-23 to ensure remunerative prices to the growers for their produce. In the case of safflower, there has been an increase of Rs 114 per quintal in comparison to last year," claimed the central government. According to CCEA, the increase in MSP is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSPs at a level of at least 1.5 times of the all-India weighted average cost of production. -PTC News
