New Delhi, February 4: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the death of an ASI of the force who shot himself with his service weapon while on duty at the residence of the Director Intelligence Bureau in the national capital.

Rajbir Kumar, a 53-year-old CRPF ASI, shot two rounds at himself from his service revolver on Friday evening at around 4.15 p.m., while he was deployed at the residence of the IB Director within the Tughlaq Road Police Station limits of the national capital.

According to a top CRPF official, "a Court of Inquiry has been ordered" into the incident to find out the exact cause which led ASI Rajbir to shoot himself."

According to the police, who are also investigating the cause of the act, the body of the deceased security personnel has been sent for autopsy and no suicide note has been recovered from the scene.

The district forensic crime team was dispatched to the scene to recover fingerprints.

The family of the deceased CRPF personnel from Madhya Pradesh has been notified, and an inquest under CrPC Section 174 has also been initiated.

According to available data, there were 123 suicides in the paramilitary forces in 2017, 96 in 2018, and 129 in 2019. The figure was 137 in 2020 and reached an all-time high of 153 in 2021, with the CRPF reporting 58 cases.
