Amritsar temple grenade attack: One accused shot dead in encounter, second on the run
PTC News Desk: Two days after the grenade blast at a temple in Amritsar's Khandwala, one accused has been shot dead in an encounter with Punjab police on Monday while second suspect fled the spot.
The accused identified as Gursidak Singh was shot after a brief exchange of fire and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His accomplice, Vishal, managed to escape.
According to police officials, specific intelligence was received about the accused moving around the Rajasansi area. A team comprising personnel from the CIA and Chheharta police was formed to detain them.
Earlier on March 15, two bike borne assailants were seen hurling explosives at the temple building triggering a massive blast that damaged its wall and shattered window panes, according to officials. The incident was captured in CCTV leading to their identification.
Gaurav Yadav, DGP Punjab Police said that while acting on the specific intelligence about their presence in Rajasansi area, Commisserate Police Amritsar tracked down the suspects followed by brief exchange of fire injuring a head constable and striking another officer’s turban.

Earlier Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Bhullar stated that preliminary investigations suggest a possible link to Pakistan. "Pakistan engages in such mischievous acts from time to time," he said, adding that authorities are verifying the nature of the explosive used and working to establish a clear motive behind the attack.
