The BCCI informed that Team India is wearing black armbands in remembrance of The Flying Sikh Milkha Singh.
Earlier in the day, Virat Kohli had shared a picture with the legendary sprinter. “A legacy that inspired a whole nation to aim for excellence. To never give up and chase your dreams. Rest in Peace Milkha Singh Ji 🙏. You will never be forgotten,” he wrote.
Likewise, Rishabh Pant wrote: “India says goodbye to an icon and an inspiration. Your legacy will keep guiding and inspiring generations of the sportsperson. Rest in peace, sir.”
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had tweeted: “Extremely saddened by this news ..RIP, India’s one of the greatest sportsmen… you have made young Indians dream of becoming an athlete..had the privilege of knowing you so closely…”
Sachin Tendulkar wrote: “Rest in Peace our very own ‘Flying Sikh’ Milkha Singh Ji. Your demise has left a deep void in every Indian’s heart today, but you shall keep inspiring several generations to come.”
India is up against New Zealand for the WTC Final 2021. Kiwis have won the toss and elected to field first.
