PTC News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday slammed Congress during the no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha and referred to the 1984 Army attack on Akal Takht and the 1966 Air Force attack in Mizoram ordered by then PM Indira Gandhi.

"Congress government, led by then-prime minister Indira Gandhi, deployed the Air Force to assault people in Mizoram in 1966, and launched a military attack on Akal Takht in the 1980s," said PM Modi.

PM Modi also hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his references to 'Bharat Mata' and inquired 'why some people wish her death.' "These remarks have seriously hurt the feelings of all Indians," he added.

''These are people who occasionally talk about the murder of democracy and the Constitution. These are the people (the Congress) who divided Maa Bharati into three parts. When it came time to rescue Maa Bharati from slavery, they chopped off her limbs,'' he claimed in a scathing attack on the Congress, accusing it of nothing but politics.

"Congress is demanding answers for the violence in Manipur; they are forgetting what Nehru ji did when Assam was attacked," Prime Minister Modi stated.

He went on to say that the opposition lacked the courage and the intention to debate Manipur.

"We had invited them (the opposition) to a discussion on Manipur. The Home Minister had written a letter requesting a discussion on Manipur. But they lacked courage and intention. In Amit Shah's message, there was an intention to send a message of peace to the people of Manipur," the Prime Minister remarked.

Modi also discussed his government's development efforts for the entire northeastern region, adding that he had visited the region over 50 times and his ministers had gone over 400 times.
