After ‘SYL’ ban, Twitter accounts of two farmer bodies withheld
Chandigarh, June 27: A day after ban of Moosewala’s song SYL released posthumously from YouTube platform, Twitter accounts to two farmer bodies withheld by the most hyped microblogging site.
The handle namely, Tractor 2 Twitter (@Tractor2twitr) and Kisan Ekta Morcha (@Kisanektamorcha) was also withheld by Twitter on the government’s demand.

While Kisan Ekta Morcha twitter handle has 5 lakhs followers, Tractor2Twitter has 55 thousand followers with is managed by 8-10 young activists from different states. These two accounts primarily shared information regarding activities and programmes of farmers’ agitation against three controversial agricultural laws, which were introduced by the union government to spread awareness among farming community on agrarian crisis as well.
The two accounts were among the top trending twitter handles during the farm agitation period.
When the twitter handles of these accounts are opened on the microblogging website, the message gets displayed as ‘Account Withheld’ @Kisanektamorcha’s account has been withheld in India in response to a legal demand.’
Twitter sent an email to both the farmer Twitter accounts informing them:
“In order to comply with Twitter’s obligations under India’s local laws, we have withheld the following account in India under the country’s Information Technology Act, 2000, the content remains available elsewhere.”
SKM leader and president of the Krantikari Kisan Union, Dr Darshan Pal condemned the move. “Both the Twitter handles were platforms to raise farmers’ issues. This is, out and out, an attempt to silence our voices. All justice loving and pro-democracy people and groups need to come together, lest we end up becoming a country of Hitler and Mussolini,” Pal.

Some Punjab Congress leaders are among those who have tweeted against this action to withhold these accounts.
