Mizoram accident: 17 dead, several injured as under-construction railway bridge collapses
Mizoram railway bridge collapses: In a horrific and unfortunate incident, at least seventeen workers killed and several feared trapped as an under-construction railway bridge collapsed near Sairang area of Mizoram.
The incident took place at around 10 am and about 20 km from Aizawl in Mizoram.

As per the statement of police official, several others feared trapped at the site, as around 35-40 workers were present at the under-construction site.
Those injured were rushed to the nearby hospital and senior officials of Northeast Frontier Railway will also visit the site.
Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga took to his X handle to express his condolences to all the bereaved families and wrote, "Under construction railway over bridge at Sairang, near Aizawl collapsed today; atleast 17 workers died: Rescue under progress."
"Deeply saddened and affected by this tragedy. I extend my deepest condolences to all the bereaved families and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Sending gratitude to the people who have come out in large numbers to help with rescue operations," he added.

Pained by the bridge mishap in Mizoram and giving condolences to those who have lost their loved ones, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.
