Amritsar, May 14: A major mishap was averted as a fire broke out at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar, in Punjab on Saturday afternoon. It took firefighters more than an hour to douse the flames. No casualty or injury to anyone was reported.

At least six firefighters were pressed into service at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Amritsar. A short circuit in a transformer is said to be the cause behind the incident. As per information, the fire broke out near the X-Ray department. The three floors of the building were damaged. The loss to the medical equipment and building is yet to be assessed. He said although the fire broke out due to oil leaking from an old power transformer, the incident would be investigated. "While this hospital treats thousands of people daily, several students also study at this medical college. Under no circumstances can the safety of people and hospital be compromised," he added. publive-image Harbhajan Singh ETO directed officials of the power department to restore power supply to the hospital at the earliest.
