India records highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases in 85 days

Coronavirus India Updates: India on Monday recorded 26,291 new cases of COVID-19, the highest single-day spike in the last 85 days, taking the Covid tally to 1,13,85,339, according to the Union health ministry. The death toll in India due to COVID-19 has increased to 1,58,725 with 118 fresh death being recorded in a day. The total active caseload has increased to 2,19,262 which is 1.93 percent of the total cases in the country. India has been registering an upward trend for five days in a row. Meanwhile, the recovery rate has dropped to 96.68 percent, the data stated while giving coronavirus updates regarding India. On December 20, around 26,624 infections were recorded in a span of 24 hours. The total number of recoveries has surged to 1,10,07,352, while the case fatality rate has gone up by 1.39 percent.
